Born and raised in Seattle, Ian Chen grew up exploring all forms of art. Since 2013, he has dedicated himself to perfecting the art of oil painting. Utilizing oil paint, his concepts revolve around growing up Asian-American and expressing what that means and hopefully creating a space for future Asian-American artists. The concepts include exploring Asian-American masculinity, working in a corporate environment, and dissecting and adopting Asian and Asian-American pop culture.
“I have a full time job. I don’t need money. I paint in my free time. I create because I want to. This freedom is the essence of my art.”
Since 2013, Ian has participated in a variety of art shows and has displayed his art amongst various establishments around Seattle. He aims to show his work around his city hopefully to the delight of those that see it.
